Read it and Weep started like a million years ago by comedian Alex Falcone as a book club for popular fiction that was not the best (or more specifically in hindsight, not aimed at him). With his co-hosts and guests he suffered through largely bad books, movies, and TV for hundreds of episodes before deciding he needed a break and switching to mostly good movies.
After 400 episodes, he kicked off season 2 (we have long seasons) with one question in mind: does it hold up? He watched lots of old movies, ate some fast food, and had a water balloon fight (that one definitely held up).
At this point he realized he had been doing podcast about movies for a long time and really didn’t know that much about them. So he enlisted his two movie-guy friends to teach him in a season called Slightly Condescending Film School. People liked it.
Now fully enlightened, he embarked on Season 4: Perfect Opinions where he discusses topics usually revolving around media and tells you the only right way to feel about them. It’s a good time and VERY DIFFERENT from other podcasts where dudes watch movies and talk about them. Very different.
About the Hosts
Host / Producer
Alex is the only comedian and writer based in Los Angeles, CA. He hosts the show, edits it, and is usually the person you’re talking to on Facebook/Twitter. He’s acted on Portlandia a handful of times, done standup on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and is frequently touring. Check out his website for details of that.
Anthony Lopez
Co-host, cat person
Anthony is a comedian and movie buff in Portland, OR. He’s got a strong opinion about everything and enough knowledge to back it up, even when he’s wrong. He was added as a regular co-host to the show in 2017.
Hunter Donaldson
Co-host
Hunter is a podcaster and stand-up comedian currently living in the woods of Arkansas. His love of strategy board games is only matched by his love of FUN! You can hear more of him on his board game podcast Space Cats Peace Turtles. In the before times he was a kinda good regional comedian who was elected into the Willamette Week’s “Funniest Five” 2019 while performing at clubs and festivals across the country. He is not a snitch.
