RiaW #73: The Star Wars Holiday Special – Reviewed

MP3

In this episode of the podcast, we jump into another movie considered by the Internet to be one of the worst ever made. But in this case, we find it.

The Star Wars Holiday Special is a filmic abomination so bad it makes “The Room” look like “The Shawshank Redemption.” The only mildly interesting part of movie is the original 1978 commercials that are left in to the bootleg copy we watched.

After the compliment sandwich and a game of Hatebage, we debut a new segment, Guide Comics For The Blind. Because if we had to watch it, blind people should have to as well.

So, being a major Star Wars nerd myself, I just wanted to point out that the armor that the Stormtroopers wear is actually durasteel plating, and at high angles can actually deflect laser fire. Of course, that’s the theory, and in the films that really doesn’t come into practice.Few more notes:The stormtroopers by the time of the Galactic Civil War (non-nerds: the first three movies) were NOT all clones. By that time, the Empire had started conscripting units.George Lucas actually wanted ‘every copy hunted down and burned’. Really. (starwars.wikia.com)The food that ‘Lumpy’ is served is ‘Wookiee-ookies’. Really. There’s a name for that. The only main character not played by the actor is R2-D2. Weird. Apparently he was the only guy who refused the contract. Also, the ENTIRE MOVIE is non-canon. So it really didn’t happen, according to Star Wars storyline.

Wow. You get bonus points all over the place. Although, according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wik… it’s all canon except for one line. So we didn’t make that up, somebody else did. And regardless of what it’s supposed to be made of, the armor is clearly plastic and moreover, doesn’t save a single life in the movies I’ve seen.

Alex is correct, stormtrooper armor is not made of durasteel, but is instead a plastoid (though not ceramic as I mentioned in the episode). And Date is totally on to the stormtrooper clone thing. They aren’t all clones by Episode IV. I mean, what about Trooper Davin Felth!Nerd out.
