Honestly, we hadn’t felt this good after a reading assignment since The Hunger Games… which also featured kids killing each other… hmmm… well, that’s disturbing.

Nah, I didn’t like it because it is the ultimate Mary Sue book.
Gary Sue, actually. And it bothers the fuck out of me that self-insert clumsy girl fic = satan or at least “is bad”, but this book gets a pass. Like, I enjoyed Ender’s Game when I read it (even though I’m queer), but that’s a bit of a double standard.
I hated Ender’s Game when I read it as an adult because it brought back traumatic memories of childhood bullying. The friend who convinced me to read it, who had read it as a child when she needed a Smart Kid Revenge Fantasy, couldn’t relate.
